FEMA-

Ok so just need to rant for a moment- Front page article in the NY Times(www.nytimes.com for full article)FEMA annouced they will close all FEMA trailer camps set up for Katrinia victims. About 900 families are living in these camps and will be displaced. Homelessness has risen 50 percent since Katrinia and what these people can afford is uninhabitable.

Where can they go? They were living in houses that had been passed down from generation to generation and the neighborhood watched was a real community. It took me going down to Nawlins to understand the sense of place and pride that they have in being born and raised in Nawlins. It s there home and leaving is just not what they ever considered. I have moved so many times that I really dont have have the roots and sense of place that New Orleans natives have. My heart aches for the hardships they have lived though and continued heartlessnes they are faced with.

phew - done-

sorry for the rant

Your heart is bigger than Lake Ponchartrain.

I am no fan of "Brownie," or the "heckuva job" he did (and as to his sponsor, I will spare the vitriol because many good people I know were duped by him in 2000 and in '04), but -- sadly -- NoLa has been the victim of corruption and neglect for many decades. It's amazing that we have poured $11 billion down the sinkhole that is the Musharraf regime in Pakistan (and hundreds of billions down the bottomless pit that is Iraq). Rebuilding a major American city will take a huge commitment, and that's hard to do when (a) we have such a huge deficit, (b) Bush has cut taxes for the rich, and (c) the economy is in the dumper.

Well spoken Steve and Linda. One would think it wouldn't be too difficult to levee charges of impeachment upon these turdsticks. If a guy can be impeached for lying about an affair with his wife, what's the holdup? At best they are inept, at worst they are war criminals.

Hey that'd be a great concept for T-Shirt "W Stands for War Criminal!"

From what I understand, they can't get an impeachment to pass. Don't have enough votes.

I could be wrong though.

As for NO--I just wonder who thought it was a great idea to build a city in a floodplain. I mean, seriously. Someone somewhere along the line must've been like 'you guys really think this place is better than like, oh, I don't know. Some place that won't flood?'

I guess some people just chose to live in harms way-like CALIFORNIA(said in best Arnold Schwzengar accent)and the wildfires and earthquakes.I suppose the things that make it dangerous are also the things that make it beautiful.

As for Nawlins I suppose most of the residents were not there by choice but by family, birth and economic reasons. They could rent a house for $300. ,feed the family on a low paying job and have the childcare taken care of for free(relatives, neighbors that have known the families for generations)
Although they are safer in Houston and other places from flooding they will never be able to get back what they hade.

sorry I tend to go on and on and on

loooooooooooooooong winded
sorry
