I hated saying to Hale about Elizabeth's having been "mentioned" in the court We are entirely amazed. Something about my delivery never really set in, and thus I felt it kind of sucked.
Other than the "Name" monologue i loved the closing line -> Show them a heart of stone and sink them with it!
Okay, it's not my line, but I loved Tituba's "Chicken blood! I give she chicken blood!" But this may already be apparent by the tagline I chose for the blog site.
I have to say my favorite is a cliche, but I'm sticking to it. I love the whole Proctor lines, "Because it is my name!...." It has such a powerful message that everyone can imagine. Plus James delivery really made more powerful.
My most hated line...."I'M SURE OF IT MARSHALL!" Ummm, yeah, enough said.
My fave (one of them) is Nurse's talking about why his wife was accused... "For the marvelous and supernatural murder of Goody Putnam's babies!" Something about "marvelous" and "supernatural" - just shouldn't be together, but sound good...
Least fave: Danforth to Willard (?) - "Come man, we wait you!" Huh?
Echo Jason's comment about the "my name" monologue of Proctor - very powerful and beautifully spoken by James. I never knew how to react there on stage, standing in the background. I always wanted to be ashamed of my role in the whole affair, but John's "good Nazi" dictate just made me confused...
"It is a lie!" of course.
My own least favorite was "That's a notorious sign of witchcraft afoot, a prodigious sign!" Mostly because my lazy tongue had a hard time getting it out clearly. I was thrilled when Goody Ann started speaking over it.
"I hope you'll not be so sarcastical no more." God. Mary Warren was so stupid :(
I loved Linda's line "It is no mouse no more." It's where I get my nickname!
"Mark it for a Sign"
loved it
"He were not hanged..he would not blah blah blah blah".Giles Corey speech-
Never knew how to say that-
its always fun to say"Then go and tell her shes a whore" when do you get to say that in real life!
Awwww . . . such good times. Reading this is making me grin. Linda, I loved the way you delivered the Giles Corey speech!! But you know that you're my hero. And I'll add my "aye" to the commendation of James for his rendition of the "Because it is my name!" speech. If I wasn't onstage doing my best to look "one foot in heaven" behind you, I'm sure I would have gotten goose bumps. But it's rather taxing looking so deathly.
You all are far too kind to this fellow. Thank you for your words.
I gotta throw in that i loved saying of Rebecca Nurse, It is hard to think so pious a woman could secretly be a devil's bitch . . .
I loved the dialog between Parris and Danforth over whether or not they danced, and naked at that. Almost as if to say, "Who gives a rip if they were naked? BUT THEY HAVE DANCED??
Oh yeah James...I second the line about Rebecca Nurse. I also liked the line from Hale to Putnam -> "Stand by close, in case she flies." Steve's reaction to that line made such a funny moment.
Just looked at the pictures of Crucible-behind the scenes -to funny! It was great seeing pictures of you all again although I will be contacting a plastic surgeon ASAP!(god I hate seeing pictures of myself)
thank you so much Hannah and please thank your roommate
"Im amazed you do not see what weighty work we do"
loved that line!
Favourite Parris line: "Ssssh"
Favourite non-Parris line: "Oh, Jesus." (Mercy)
Least favourite Parris line: "My, they're heavy."
Least favourite non-Parris line: "I --"/"I --" (Mary and the Harlots - great name for a band!)
Hey all. My least favorite line: "He sits like some great bird, your honor." I still have no idea how to deliver it without sounding like weenie. I was also not a fan of "...it's the propper morning to fly into hell!" Always sounded like I was giving the morning commute trafic report.
As for great lines...ah there were so many. I've always liked Giles' "bloody mongrel" and "I heard she flies", but there are too many others to list.
"I am a convenated, convenkinitted, convenantttedddd, christian woman"
mark reminded me of one of my lines that lets just say gave me a spot of trouble.
